In the course of doing assignments, interacting with various programs, technological tools and resources for EDIT 124, I have acquired an understanding about fair dealings, creative commons licences and copyright,privacy, intellectual and property issues. They are all important, I must admit that really didn't give them the consideration they deserved before embarking upon the EDIT 124 unit, I knew it was illegal to claim somebodies else work as your own, but I had no knowledge about the different types of licences and how they can be used.
When using digital resources, tools and information it is essential to consider the safety, legal and ethical issues, responsibilities and practices. Safety, policies, procedures and practices must be implemented and students need to be educated about these.
While on my Prac I observed safety features and practices put into place by the school for ensuring their students’ cyber safety. The teachers were vigilant ( I helped with this process)while their students’ were using the internet; they used filters which only allowed particular content to come through and blocked others from doing so. They educated their students about appropriate ways of using technology, interacting with each other and discussed associated risk factors.
As we use technology on a daily bases we sometimes become complacent about the issues associated with its use, this is where demonstrative practices such as placing a picture of yourself as a teacher saying that you are demonstrating cyber safety for your students’ and monitoring where the profile goes and how many people that you don’t know have access to the picture.
I will implement all of the above practices in my classroom ensuring my students safety and developing their knowledge.
